&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><a name='more'><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 6.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;\">\nI can<br \/>\nservice a motorcycle engine, insert a naso-gastric feeding tube and bake hot cross<br \/>\nbuns.&nbsp; But while I have these skills, I<br \/>\nam not as quick, efficient or simply as good as someone who does this<br \/>\nregularly.&nbsp; We at Quinticon have the<br \/>\nintegration experience, but it takes<br \/>\ntime to study and gain the understanding of the client organisations systems<br \/>\nrequired to perform a successful integration.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 6.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;\">\nThis is why \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It Just Works\u00e2\u201e\u00a2\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (IJW) is such a powerful message to IT<br \/>\ndecision makers.&nbsp; This is a key part of<br \/>\nthe sales message for a number of products including Oracle Exadata, VCE VBlock<br \/>\nand Nimble Storage.&nbsp; The cost of<br \/>\ntransition is significant to most organisations, especially when business<br \/>\nimpact is included in the calculation.&nbsp;<br \/>\nAny product that has the ability to significantly reduce this is looked<br \/>\non&nbsp;favourably<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 6.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;\">\nOne of the biggest buzzwords in IT today is<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Cloud\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.&nbsp; The list of advantages touted<br \/>\nfor cloud solutions is long and includes \u00e2\u20ac\u0153faster\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153cheaper\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, but also \u00e2\u20ac\u0153easier\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.&nbsp; In many cases cloud providers have capacity<br \/>\navailable for immediate use, and can take advantage of economies of scale to drive<br \/>\ndown costs.&nbsp; Also importantly using a<br \/>\ncloud provider takes a whole bunch of infrastructure complexity and makes it \u00e2\u20ac\u009dSomebody<br \/>\nElse\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Problem\u00c2\u00ae\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (SEP).&nbsp;<br \/>\nFor an organisation, or IT manager, that is struggling juggle the<br \/>\ncompeting demands, signing a contract with a supplier is offering to take away<br \/>\nsome of those demands looks very attractive.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 120%; margin-bottom: 6.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 6.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;\">\nThe purpose of this article is not to argue that these<br \/>\nare the only factors driving IT decision-making or marketing.&nbsp; There are however some very non-technical<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153features\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that are often overlooked but still play a significant role in<br \/>\ndecision making.&nbsp; \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It Just Works\u00c3\u201d \u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u009dSomebody Else\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<br \/>\nProblem\u00c3\u2019\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nare two of those that I see as significant in our customers and industry.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post is based on an article I wrote for the internal newsletter while I was working at Quinticon. &nbsp;Thanks to Quinticon&#8217;s M.D. Geoff Willson for giving permission to reproduce it here.
